Happy and Blessed
I had something different ready to post today, but I decided these cannot wait! Amidst all the beautiful chaos around here, we are still attempting to celebrate being engaged and plan a wedding. We have been engaged for almost a month and a half and the extent of our planning is picking the date and booking the best photographer in the world.
We did receive our first wedding gift. That best photographer in the world I just mentioned (Hilary) happens to be a very dear friend of mine. She lives in New Hampshire and became connected to me through my best friend, Krista, who lives here. Hilary came to visit the March after I became a single mom and took beautiful pictures of me and my (then) four little blessings. She and Krista made the whole experience special for me and helped renew my confidence in my ability to be an amazing mom despite my situation. I smiled a real smile on the day we took those pictures and I felt encouraged and uplifted by two sisters in Christ. It may sound silly, but those pictures were more than just pictures to me. They represented so much more. Krista had one blown up on canvas and helped me (way back then) take down my old wedding portrait and replace it with the picture of me and my kids. I left the plaque that had been above the wedding picture because it still fit the new picture and the new reality: “And they lived happily ever after…” Happy and Blessed. Happy is not a by-product of having everything you want; it is in knowing Christ and knowing you are blessed. It is in knowing the source of joy.
When David and I got engaged in December, I remembered shortly after that Hilary was coming to visit in January! We started to plan a possible engagement picture session because it was just too perfect. She and I had joked over the last two years that if I ever got engaged and married again, she would just have to travel all the way here to take the pictures! Well now she was actually coming and it had been planned since before my engagement! When she got here, she contacted David and I and let us know that she brought her camera and that her wedding gift to us was going to be the engagement session I wanted so badly. I told her how blessed I felt and she told us that she was blessed by me and my kids and our story and the journey David and I have both been on. Commence the excitement and jumping up and down! The result was another session that became a special experience full of laughter and rejoicing that we were actually taking engagement pictures and documenting a new beginning, and another set of pictures that are more than just pictures. Once again they represent so much more. And we will all continue to live happily ever after. Happy and Blessed.
